The following information was extracted from the Georgia
Death Index. Death records in the state of Georgia were to be recorded by
every county starting in 1919. Some counties have earlier death records,
Glynn County is one of them. Our records start in 1891, however, they are
very few, especially if your ancestor did not live in the city.
According to one funeral home, it was not mandatory until
1950 that every death be recorded, therefore your ancestor may not be in this
index even though you know for a fact that they died in 1923.
I have extracted information from the following counties and
placed them on this site: Glynn, Camden, Brantley, McIntosh, Wayne, and
Ware.
Another thing to remember, these
records were compiled by humans, and then extracted by this human. There
are, of course, mistakes. Spelling being the biggest. I did not
change any spellings from the index unless I knew them to be incorrect. Some deaths are recorded twice, with
either a different certificate number or a variation in the spelling of the
name.
This is a very time consuming
project, and the pages will be updated periodically as I go.
The certificate number listed in
this database is for State reference only, it is totally useless on the county
level.
