Coastal Georgia Genealogical Society
Brantley County was formed in
the year 1921, after citizens deemed it a hardship to travel to county
seats from their homes. That, compiled with the community's distress
over legal issues not being handled properly, set the new county idea in
motion.
Comprised of about 500 miles,
Brantley County was formed out of Pierce, Wayne, and Charlton Counties.
The first county seat was Hoboken, as it was closer to the homes of those
who initiated the forming of Brantley County. However, the seat was
later moved to Nahunta, a more centrally located town.
Voted into existence in 1920,
Brantley County was officially "open for business" on 1 January 1921.
So remember when researching your
family, if they were living in Brantley County in the 1920s, and you want
to go further back, you will have to check the surrounding counties for
records, mainly Wayne County.
My name is Amy Hedrick, and I
am the host for the GlynnGen.com website, and the county pages found
herein. These pages are part of a greater work of records from the Glynn
County Genealogy & History Website. Many queries have been sent me
regarding information located in other counties, and I try my best to
help. As time progresses, maybe you folks at home, will want to share your
Brantley County heritage and records.
