This is only a partial list, and will be updated further.

Glynn County has many records that are available to the public for genealogical purposes.  Here is what we have, and where it is located.

Glynn County Probate Court:  11 Judicial Lane Suite 275, Brunswick, GA 31520

  • Marriage Licenses 1810 and up
  • Estates c1806 and up
  • Inferior & Ordinary Court Minutes c1810 and up [these records may have more information on a court case and other local happenings not found anywhere else.  These books are not indexed.
  • Confederate Pension Roll Book
  • Physician & Druggist Licenses
  • Record of Prescriptions
  • Bastardy Cases can be found in the loose papers and minutes books.
  • Confederate Exemption Letters can be found in the loose papers and minutes books.
  • Indentures & Guardianship NOT adoptions, can be found in the loose papers and minutes books.
  • Lunacy Records most start in the 1960s, and they are private records.  Some early ones can be found in the loose papers and minutes books.
  • Homestead Exemptions
  • County Officer Bonds

Glynn County Superior Court:  701 H. St., Brunswick, GA 31520 -- Deeds (912) 554-7314 -- Clerk of Superior 554-7272

  • Deeds & Mortgages 1796 and up
  • Court Cases c1870s and up anything this court would handle, i.e. murder trials, divorce, adoptions, felonies, misdemeanors, etc.  Most of the Superior Court Minutes and records were lost in a house fire (the records were stored at the clerk's home, there was NOT a court house fire).
  • Minutes Books for above mentioned cases.
  • Plat Maps of properties then and now.

City Hall:

  • Cemetery Deeds for Greenwood and Palmetto Cemetery.
  • City Council Minutes 1838 and up. Not indexed
  • Business Licenses
  • City Deeds many records showing historic property chain of ownership.  Not indexed
  • City Tax Records not indexed.

Brunswick Public Library:  208 Gloucester St., Brunswick, GA 31520 -- (912) 267-1212

  • Brunswick Newspapers (microfilm) 1836 and up.  Many papers are missing.  From 1839 to 1874 there are ABSOLUTELY no papers, then from 1875 to the 1930s papers are sporadic.  The early 1900s are few and poorly microfilmed.  Articles not indexed
  • Brantley County Newspapers (microfilm) from 1921 and up.  Articles not indexed
  • Savannah Newspapers (microfilm) Jan.-June 1862; Jan-Dec 1863; Jan-Dec 1865; Jan-June 1866; Jun-Oct 1893
  • Margaret Davis Cate Collection (microfilm) the notes and files that Mrs. Cate used for her research.  Many family histories can be found here.  Index available.
  • Hofwyl Plantation Records (microfilm)
  • Glynn Academy School Annuals 1948 and up
  • Brunswick High School Annuals 1970 and up
  • City Directories 1890 and up
  • Brunswick Telephone Books 1956 and up
  • Georgia Census (microfilm) 1820 and up.
  • St. Simons Library Genealogy Collection the genealogy materials located at the library on St. Simons Island have now been moved to the Brunswick library.

Glynn County Health Department: Vital Records 2747 Fourth St., Brunswick, GA 31520 -- (912) 264-3961

  • Birth Records 1919 and up, MUST be a next of kin:  parent, sibling, spouse, child.  Cost is $10.
  • Death Records 1919 and up, public record but must be next of kin to know the cause of death.  Cost $10.
